Managing chronic health conditions is a daily challenge for millions of individuals. From juggling multiple medications to keeping track of doctor appointments, patients often struggle with fragmented solutions that fail to provide a seamless experience. Studies show that 50% of patients with chronic illnesses do not take their medications as prescribed, leading to severe health risks and complications. Additionally, missed appointments and poor communication with healthcare providers contribute to gaps in treatment and increased stress levels. The lack of an integrated, user-friendly system results in medication errors, scheduling conflicts, and reduced adherence to treatment plans.
As digital health solutions continue to evolve, there is an increasing demand for a comprehensive and accessible platform that simplifies chronic disease management. A survey by the World Health Organization found that digital interventions can improve medication adherence by up to 30%, highlighting the potential of mobile health apps. With 85% of smartphone users relying on their devices for health-related information, an all-in-one solution that combines medication tracking, appointment scheduling, and direct communication with healthcare professionals is more essential than ever. To gather data about our target demographic efficiently, we created an online survey using Google Forms , accessible through a shareable link. The survey consisted of 8 questions designed to collect information about users' health management habits, the tools they currently use, and their interest in a comprehensive health management app.

Our research shows that there is significant demand for a comprehensive, all-in-one mobile health app among individuals with chronic conditions. Users are actively seeking solutions that simplify health management, from medication adherence to appointment scheduling. The demand for personalized, real-time tools to manage health effectively has become more prominent, with mobile solutions being at the forefront of this trend.
The survey findings underscore that users are facing challenges with disjointed health management tools, often relying on a combination of various apps or manual approaches. With 80% of respondents indicating interest in a health app that combines medication tracking, appointment scheduling, and communication with healthcare providers, AuraCare is well-positioned to meet these needs. Furthermore, features such as accessibility for individuals with visual or motor impairments and support for caregivers are prioritized by users.
We have determined that AuraCare holds significant potential in addressing the needs of individuals managing chronic health conditions. The primary target audience for AuraCare should consist of individuals aged 30-60 who are tech-savvy and motivated to enhance their health management experience. Additionally, the app would offer considerable benefits to caregivers and family members seeking to assist their loved ones in managing their health.

The following table outlines Lisa Carter’s user journey with AuraCare, highlighting key touchpoints, actions, and emotions at each stage. It emphasizes the app’s elderly-friendly design, high security, and smart health management features, ensuring Lisa can confidently track her medications and appointments without fear of scams or complexity.

As part of the early design phase for AuraCare, we created low-fidelity sketches to visualize key app functionalities and user interactions. These sketches were guided by our research findings, ensuring they address the primary pain points users face in managing chronic health conditions.



Building upon the initial sketches, we developed the following wireframes to refine the structure and flow of AuraCare’s key features. These wireframes provide a clearer representation of the user journey, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience.

By transitioning from sketches to wireframes, we aimed to establish a more detailed visual layout while maintaining a user-centric design approach.
















The choice of a monochromatic purple color palette for AuraCare is a strategic design decision that enhances the app’s user experience by promoting calmness, trust, and clarity. Purple, a color associated with peace, stability, and creativity, is ideal for a health app where users often manage chronic conditions, as it evokes a sense of tranquility and reassurance. The varying shades of purple create a cohesive, elegant design that ensures consistency while highlighting critical elements like buttons, headers, and interactive areas. Lighter purples serve as a neutral background, fostering a calm environment, while darker tones, like Kobe and Forest Green, offer contrast to guide user attention to important tasks. The final step in the design process involved creating high fidelity mockups of our app in full colour based on our chosen colour palette and typography. They also include our choices of icons and logos. The interactable elements are clearly indicated by their colour, icons and position on the page.





























The onboarding process guides users through key features of the application to ensure a smooth start. First, the app introduces its reminder system, which keeps users informed about upcoming appointments and clinic promotions. Next, it highlights the convenience of managing medical records within the app, allowing for quick and easy access. Users are then reassured about the security of their medical data, which is protected with advanced encryption and strict privacy controls. Finally, the onboarding concludes with a confirmation step, encouraging users to proceed by stating, "I'm ready!" and moving on to the main application experience.
The login and signup process ensures a seamless and secure entry into the application. Users can log in using Google, Apple, or their phone number for convenience and security. For new users, the signup process begins with choosing a login method, followed by entering their phone number and setting a password. Next, a verification code is sent to confirm their identity. Once the code is entered correctly, the signup process is completed, and the user is notified of successful registration. For returning users, the login process follows a similar structure, leading to a confirmation screen that directs them to the homepage upon successful authentication.
The real-time appointment management system allows users to seamlessly schedule, review, and manage their medical appointments. The process begins on the dashboard, where users can view their upcoming appointments and explore available healthcare services. Users can browse a list of doctors by specialty, select a preferred doctor, and check their availability. After selecting a time slot, they can review service details, prices, and doctor credentials before confirming their appointment. The system also provides patient reviews for better decision-making. Once confirmed, users receive a success notification and have the option to add the appointment to their calendar. Additionally, from the first screen (dashboard), users can reschedule or cancel appointments directly by pressing on the appointment details box, ensuring flexibility and ease of management.
The medication tracking flow is designed to help users effectively manage their medication schedules. It begins by allowing users to input their meds doses. The system then sends timely reminders to ensure users take their medications as prescribed, reducing the risk of missed doses. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals managing chronic conditions or complex medication regimens, as it promotes consistency and helps users stay on top of their health.
The secure chat process offers a protected communication platform for users to interact with healthcare providers, caregivers, or family members. It starts by verifying the identity of all participants to ensure that only authorized individuals can access the conversation. The chat is encrypted end-to-end, safeguarding sensitive health information from unauthorized access. This flow enhances communication efficiency and ensures that confidential health discussions remain private.
The enhanced settings provide users with advanced customization options to tailor the application to their specific needs, update emergency contacts and access virtual support. It begins with smart alerts, which allow users to set personalized reminders for medications, appointments, and other health-related tasks. The profile management option enables users to update their personal details and preferences, ensuring that the app remains aligned with their evolving needs. Finally, the medical records section grants users easy access to their health history, test results, and treatment plans, all in one place.

Reflecting on this project, the most challenging aspect was integrating multiple health-related features into a seamless and user-friendly experience. Each design decision was guided by the question, “How does this improve users’ health management and daily well-being?” We ensured our choices were rooted in empathy, considering diverse user needs and real-life scenarios. Our research confirmed a strong demand for a holistic health companion app, and with that insight, we crafted an intuitive and engaging design. This app aims to simplify health tracking, provide personalized insights, and enhance accessibility to essential wellness tools, ultimately empowering users to take control of their health effortlessly.
